Luteal Phase: The Basics
This is the phase right after you ovulate until the first day of your period. This is the longest phase of your cycle and is often the one most women have problems with PMS because estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are all at play.
How long does it last?
During this phase of your cycle, what is left of the follicle (corpus luteum transforms into an endocrine gland that secretes progesterone. Progesterone signals your body to not drop another egg and thicken your uterine lining incase of pregnancy. If there is no implantation then the corpus luteum absorbs back into your body after 12-14 days and you get your period.
What is happening to my body?
The luteal phase can last anywhere from 12-14 days. That is why you should be aiming for.
Focus
This is the time when PMS will strike you. It is important to focus on calming exercises like pilates, walking and yoga. This is also a time when your skin could be out of whack, so focusing on taking extra care of it during this time will be helpful. As this phase comes to an end you'll find your energy dwindling.
Foods
During this phase your metabolism speeds up so you will definitely have an appetite. It is important to nourish your body with good food, remember under eating will only cause you more harm than good
